"Unmasked” is my latest expression in thought-provoking mixed-media artistry and my first completed work of this year. This artwork explores the unseen layers we carry, reflecting our inner turmoil concealed by the facades we present to the world. Inspired by the universal human experience of concealing inner feelings behind metaphorical "masks," this piece is not only a visual spectacle but also a profound commentary on the complexities of self-expression and authenticity. "Unmasked" invites one to ponder the masks we wear and the emotions that lie beneath, initiating a compelling dialogue between the art and its viewer.
This work is currently on display and for sale at the Spartanburg Art Museum in Spartanburg, SC. This work is part of the museum's "Displaced, The Resilience and Resurgence of Artists Affected by Hurricane Helene" exhibit which runs until March 31, 2025. If you are interested in owning this one-of-a-kind assemblage sculpture artwork please contact the Spartanburg Art Museum or me.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, my work has taken on a new layer of meaning, shaped by the loss and transformation this powerful force left in its wake. Many of my artworks were lost or irreparably damaged during the storm—vintage mannequin assemblage sculptures and prints representing months of creation and contemplation. Yet, this experience has deepened my commitment to exploring resilience, identity, and the beauty found in imperfection.
